What is a Plex Client?

A Plex client device (or Plex media player) is what you stream your media to, such as:

• Web browser:
  • On your computer or laptop
  • On your mobile device (phone or tablet)
  • e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave, etc.
• Roku
• Apple TV
• Android TV set-top box
• Google Chromecast with Google TV
• Android app for phone or tablet
• iOS app for iPhone or iPad

Whereas your server houses your media library, Plex media players let you actually stream it. With a Plex client app installed on a compatible streaming device, the app sends a request to the server which will begin to play that file for you to see and hear in real-time.

Can I download these Plex clients for free?

Yes, they are all free. However, the Android and iOS apps have 1-minute video limit.
